Blackwater and Greywater Recycling

The WJP Solutions Blackwater Recycling Process was developed with the assistance of Memcor (a Siemens Company) specifically to treat and recycle blackwater from commercial buildings for reuse.  The WJP Solutions Blackwater Recycling Process is designed around a Membrane Operating System (MOS).

 

The process was developed in 2002 by the Walter J Pratt - Environmental Division (now WJP Solutions Pty Ltd) for two projects in Melbourne.  The projects were the first and second commercial black & greywater recycling plants to be constructed and to operate in an Australian CBD.  The two projects are;

 

-  Urban Workshop, 50 Lonsdale St Melbourne - The Department of Human Services Offices

-  Southern Cross SX1 - 121 Exhibition St  Melbourne - The  Department of Treasury and Finance Offices 

 

PROCESS


The WJP Solutions Blackwater Recycling plant is a Membrane Bio-Reactor (MBR) with post chlorination as standard. The process converts sewage (black & grey) to Class A+ water standards. 

 

 Treated water is suitable for reuse applications including 

 

-  toilet flushing (see below)

-  washdown

-  irrigation

-  Industrial use

 

Additional, add on treatment can be supplied for:

 

- Heating and cooling processes (Cooling Towers see below)
- Projects with tighter nutrient requirements. (N & P)

The process utilises an immersed hollow fibre membrane technology sourced from Memcor / Siemens Water Technologies. The membranes filter down to 0.04/1000th of a millimetre removing pathogens including viruses.  The membranes have undergone independent challenge testing and validation and can be monitored in accordance with the USEPA Membrane Filtration Guidance Manual.

FLEXIBILITY IN DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION

 

The process is a series of treatment components and engineering principles tailored to be incorporated into, and around buildings and in urban environments.  

Our skills help seamlessly integrate recycled water systems into each building project.  This is achieved by working in with the project design team and taking the design and construction responsibility of everything outside a conventional plumbing design. 

We work with our clients and design teams to integrate our systems into each project minimising space, risk, energy consumption and capital cost.

FLEXIBILITY IN SCOPE

We work in with the site hydraulics contractor and engineer to co-ordinate delivery of a successful project

All our plants have onboard monitoring and fail safe capabilities to ensure clean, safe water is delivered for reuse.  Each plant has touch screen SCADA control with remote monitoring and control capabilities.
